SA Vipers Reign Supreme
South African Vipers took the top spot in the Albitt Cup as the reigning champions after edging out Fiji’s Davetelavu in a thrilling finish to the 62nd Singapore Cricket Club Rugby 7s 2009. They beat the Fijians in a score of 24-0 when the final whistle blew. Earlier in the day, the Vipers played against Ponsonby in a quarter-finals match and won 23-0. In the semi-finals, they played in an outstanding match against SA Universities and beat them in a close fight 7-0. “We’re extremely pleased with our performances over the past two days. We fielded new players this year to give them an opportunity to develop their skills. The SCC 7s has, since our participation been a good platform for us to raise our standard of play. The competition has been really keen and we hope to return next year,” said Paul Treu, coach of the South African Vipers.
Next generation moisture management, cools, warms and dries exactly where it should, not just where it can. Underskinz 142 is a special combination of Polytec and Elastane fibres which incorporate Samurai's very own Performex moisture management system. Unlike other manufacturers Samurai have developed their Underskinz to undertake 2 operations. Instead of needing to purchase 1 garment for winter use and 1 for summer you can purchase just 1 garment to effectively do 2 jobs. Underskinz 142 warms and cools different areas of the body precisely where needed. The energy your body would normally expend to regulate its optimal temperature of 37c is thus available as an energy reserve for increased perfromance.

Cambridge University secured revenge for last year's Varsity defeat by Oxford University with a 31-27 victory
Lock Will Jones's try under the posts in the 46th minute gave Cambridge a 12-10 lead, their first of the game. Oxford fought back with a Nick Haydon try but three tries in 15 minutes gave Cambridge their 45th Varsity win. Much like last year's contest it was the Dark Blues who started brightest at Twickenham but this time their high-tempo game lacked precision. Their backs, lead by enterprising fly-half Ross Swanson, looked dangerous and only a spilled pass by inside-centre Julian Allfrey five metres short denied them a 10th minute try. The Berkhamsted 7s
The last tournament saw 48 teams compete in the U13 section. The girls’ competition introduced with eight teams six years ago now features up to 24 with a section A and B. Schools from far afield have competed, including some from France, Canada and Wales and 100 different schools have taken part over the years. The tournament has flourished because every team is guaranteed four matches and because of sponsorship from local companies and Samurai International. Often seen as a warm up for the Rosslyn Park 7s, the last event’s finalists were the same although the result was reversed at Berkhamsted, with Warwick beating Whitgift.
